Interior designer in North Vancouver

family homes that work in the rain.

We design North Vancouver family homes, coach houses and renovations built for how the North Shore actually lives: wet gear, big dogs, growing kids and mountain light that changes by the hour.

What we know about designing in North Vancouver

North Vancouver family homes earn their keep at the entries: mudrooms that handle rain gear and ski boots, durable floors, and storage where the family actually drops things. We design those working zones with the same care as the living room.

Coach houses and suites are a big part of the North Shore's housing answer, and both districts have their own processes for them. Compact plans, borrowed light and full-size function make a small building feel like a home.

There are two North Vancouvers, the City and the District, and they are separate municipalities. Permit requirements depend on which one your address is in, so we confirm that first and draw to the right checklist.

Tall trees and north-facing slopes make daylight a design material here. We place the rooms you use most where the light is, choose finishes that hold warmth on grey days, and layer the lighting so the house feels good in the middle of the afternoon in winter.

Lower Lonsdale and the areas around it are where the condos and townhomes are. Those renovations run on strata approval and building logistics, and the design work is about storage, gear and making a compact plan carry a full household.

Our Swad Indian Kitchen project in Lower Lonsdale is a working example of our commercial side on the North Shore. The restaurant interior was designed and documented in-house.

Many North Vancouver houses date from the 1950s to the 1970s, in neighbourhoods such as Lynn Valley and Edgemont. They tend to have modest kitchens and a lower level that was never finished properly. Renovations usually open the kitchen to the main floor and turn the lower level into usable rooms or a suite.

We specify materials for wet weather and hard use: flooring that tolerates grit and water at the doors, finishes that clean easily, and hardware that stands up to a busy household. Durable does not have to mean plain.

Connecting the main floor to the yard is a common goal. Larger openings are structural, so they need drawings and a building permit, and we draft both the permit set and the construction set in-house.
